SeedSigner or Coldcard?
Short answerSeedSigner: you build it from cheap parts, it stores nothing and forgets your keys at power-off. Coldcard: a ready-made device that stores your seed on two secure chips from different makers.
Steps
- Pick SeedSigner if you want to build and verify it yourself and keep nothing on the device.
- Pick SeedSigner if your budget is tight. Parts are cheap and on the shelf.
- Pick Coldcard if you want to unplug a box and go, and you’re fine with a device that stores your seed.
- Either way: make the seed with dice, back it up on steel, test before you fund.
FAQ
- Is a stateless signer safe?
- It’s the point. No keys stored means nothing to pull off a stolen device. You type your words each time.
- Do both work with Sparrow?
- Yes. SeedSigner talks by QR. Coldcard works air-gapped by microSD. The Coldcard Q also scans QR. The Mk4 has no camera.
- Can I use both?
- Yes. Mixing brands is a smart way to build a 2-of-3 multisig.
