What parts do I need to build a SeedSigner?
Short answerA Raspberry Pi Zero (2 WH is best), a 1.3-inch 240×240 LCD HAT, a Pi Zero camera with the short ribbon, a microSD card and a micro-USB power cable. No soldering if the pins are on.
Steps
- Board: Raspberry Pi Zero 2 WH. Fast, pins already on. A Pi Zero WH also works, just slower.
- Screen: a 1.3-inch LCD HAT, 240×240 pixels, with joystick and 3 buttons. The project lists the Waveshare 1.3" model.
- Camera: OV5647 sensor with the short, narrow “Zero” ribbon. Wider Pi camera cables won’t fit.
- microSD card: any size. 8 or 16 GB is plenty. The software is about 50 MB.
- Power: a micro-USB cable and any USB charger or power bank.
- Optional: a case. Free 3D-printable designs are in the SeedSigner project.
- Check live stock and prices on the parts tracker.
FAQ
- Do I need to solder?
- No, if the board says “WH”. The H means the 40 pins are on. Bare board? A phone repair shop can add them in minutes.
- Does the Wi-Fi matter?
- No. “W” means the board has Wi-Fi, but SeedSigner never turns it on.
- Can I buy one ready-made?
- Yes. Pre-built units are on the parts tracker. You still flash the software and make your own seed.
